About this program
This class will teach the basics of punching and footwork of boxing, which is not only fun and fosters confidence and body awareness. Boxing is also an excellent practice for coordination and overall movement literacy. Some youth learn to discover their strength, some to regulate their strength. This is a non-contact class. Equipment is provided. Sept 9 class is OUTDOORS - please check with coaches about location. About the coaches: River is now a professional boxer who has fought in the amateur for over 10 years, competing in the USA and Canada, bringing home medals from the Canadian National Championship twice. She has been running Queers Box Camp Vancouver since 2011 Nana (Anaheed) is a queer, non-binary boxer who started boxing at Quinit Boxing in East Van two years ago. Boxing has become a very central and grounding part of their daily life. They are currently preparing for their debut fight in November. Nana works part-time in the community with elementary school children at Britannia's Out of School Care program. With a background in a variety of sports (like rock climbing, ski racing and basketball to name a few), Nana has previously coached youth in basketball at a high level as well as worked as a ski instructor for Cypress mountain teaching kids and adults. They love working with young people and meeting them where they are at to help them establish stronger connections to an activity, to themselves and their peers. Boxing room is located beside Gym C.
