About this program

Usually unfigured and heavy, a teabowl (chawan) is a ceramic vessel used in tea ceremony, and for the everyday preparation and consumption of thick tea (koicha). In this 5-day intensive course, participants will learn the basic forms of the teabowl along with techniques for altering and manipulating forms to develop character and personal style. Slip, brushwork and glazing techniques will be covered. This course is intermediate level and not suitable for beginners. One bag of Laguna Rod's Bod clay included in course fee. Participants must bring their own tools. Due to the design of this workshop, no withdrawal/refunds after June 19. No class on July 1. Final session is glazing. Instructor: Robert Stickney Please note that participants will have the option of continuing to work on their ceramics in the Pottery Studio from 2:30-5:30pm on July 6-9 for additional Open Workshop fees. The Ceramic Arts Programmer will share more information closer to the date.
