This is a satellite program operated by the ceramics staff at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, City of Burnaby's internationally renown ceramic arts facility. You will refine handbuilding methods such as slabs, coils and pinching to create sculptural works for raku firing. Western raku is a low-temperature, fast-firing process for finishing ceramic sculpture with dazzling effects. By the end of this specialty workshop, you will have a selection of ceramic work suitable for raku firing. Please note that this activity is not suitable for beginners, participants must have previously taken Ceramics 1: Handbuilding or bring equivalent experience. Clay and supplies included in the course fee. No refunds after September 20. No class October 12. Instructor: Allysha Hurd Please note that there will be a separate raku firing at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts on Monday, November 30 from 10am-4pm. The raku firing cost is $62.42 and not included in the course fee for this workshop. Registrants will be contacted directly by the Ceramic Arts Programmer with more information. Participants of this activity will be eligible to register for Ceramics: Open Workshop for Current Students on Tuesdays from 1-3pm to practice their skills outside of regular class time.
