Drop-in afterschool for an artist-facilitated workshop for all ages outdoors in the Napier Greenway. Family friendly exploration of community/emergency preparedness with Daniela, social practice artist and community preparedness educator working at the intersection of resilience, creativity, and transformation. The community art activation "Sites of Transformation", reframes preparedness as an invitation to recognize what relationships, resources, and skills we have and what supports us in mobilizing them so that we can be more resilient when an emergency hits and more creative in releasing some of the behaviour that contributes to the climate emergency. Over the summer, the project will travel to several community events. The goal is to gather 1500 responses from Vancouverites, which will come together in a gallery exhibition in Winter 2027, a living portrait of our collective resilience. The installation draws on the metaphor of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly: in the cocoon, some cells break down entirely to fuel the emergence of something new, while others hold the blueprint for what's coming. This is how communities navigate crisis - some things fall away, and what remains becomes the foundation for transformation. Look for further details on Facebook, Instagram and BritanniaCentre.org Bio Daniela Guerrero-Rodriguez (she/they) is a social practice artist and community resilience educator whose work lives at the intersection of creativity, preparedness, and transformation. With over 20 years of frontline community experience, she creates spaces that prepare individuals for transformation so they can imagine what becomes possible when we face change together. Activation Sites of Transformation (in times of crisis) is a participatory art installation inviting community members to reflect on what supports them through times of change. Visitors write or draw their response on a small handmade seed paper circle and pin it onto a large butterfly canvas - collectively building a living portrait of community resilience. The installation is part of a longer arts-based research project exploring what we already hold, individually and together, that helps us weather whatever comes next. The installation will be buried in the spring as a contribution to a pollinator garden.
