About this program
6th annual festival for activist street bands. The goal of Honk!BC is to provide free, organic music to the residents of Vancouver, and to showcase local community-based arts and culture organizations. We typically host a mix of local talent and international music groups, with special features for our two musical projects. Commercial Drive sidewalk parades will begin at 11:15am from Grandview Hwy. From noon-4pm, Sep 26, we will enliven the stage at Grandview Park where we will host a rotation of mostly unamplified local bands for the general public. Look for the band merch table, community groups and by-donation art activities. This event is free and open to all, donations are accepted. As a Society, we believe in music as a celebration and an extension of community, and through this event we hope to connect our community members to local bands and musicians and to provide an afternoon of free accessible art that invites participation. Honk! BC is a small, community arts festival which partakes of the international Honk! Movement. Honk! BC hosts 10-15 local and international bands who have an activist bent. The intention is to collaborate with local community groups and artists who endeavor to transform social structures, environmental practices, etc. The OAOS is a hub for change. We create and collaborate in order to make our world a better place to be--to truly fill the streets with joy.
