Pottery Mini-series: Handbuilt Vases and Jars

This course will focus on ways of building vases and jars from coiled clay which ultimately mask the construction method entirely. Coiled pots can be made with dramatic shapes difficult to achieve with other methods, but not everyone likes the “coil pot” look. We’ll look at hiding it through techniques like paddling, scraping, slipping, carving, and burnishing. All 4 classes will be spent on building and surface treatment. Because of the time limited nature of the mini-series, simple glaze will be applied by the instructor as necessary after bisque firing.
