About this program
Please note that our Fall 2026 Mah Jong sessions are for the broader 2SLGBTQIA+ community, no longer just for IBPOC players. Registration opens Fridays at 6:45pm for the following Monday. Participants This program is for adults and seniors, 19 years & up, who are Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bi/Pan, Trans, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, Agender + other orientation and gender identities (2SLGBQIA+). People 19+ outside that description are welcome if they are anchoring the attendance of a 2SLGBQIA+ participant. Some game familiarity is suggested as this is not an instructional program, but we have seen that experienced players are willing to share their knowledge and welcome new players to their tables. Program Overview Connect and socialize with other members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community while playing Mah Jong. Creekside has 4 game sets and 4 Mah Jong tables available for use during this program. In the event that there are not even groups of 4 players, we provide hint sheets for 3-player versions of Chinese, Hong Kong, Japanese Riichi, and American style, plus 2-player versions for Chinese and Japanese Riichi styles. Program Leader Queer Inclusion staff will be on hand to set up the tables and tile sets, and then will be nearby outside the room at the Info Table facilitating another program as it gets underway. Plan Ahead Our space will have bright overhead lighting, tables and chairs. Ground floor washrooms are binary with "gender diverse people welcome" signage. A single-user washroom is available on the second floor beside the binary washrooms, accessed by stairs or elevator (requires cashiers to swipe for access) Ground floor access is level, no stairs. Underground parking accesses ground floor by elevator or stairs. Program Specifics This program is weekly on Mondays, with some cancellations for stat holidays or conflicting bookings, at 6:45-9:00 PM in Multipurpose room 1 on the ground floor Creekside Community Centre Free Registration is not required, but recommended due to limited number of tables and game sets. It also allows us to contact you in the event of a last-minute cancellation. If more people arrive than the the Mah Jong equipment accommodates, registered participants arriving by 6:45pm will have priority over drop-ins.
