About this program
Learn pottery, sculpture and ceramic arts in our professionally equipped studio. This course will cover wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques with a focus on creating works for a group raku firing on the final day of class. After being introduced to various building techniques, students are encouraged to explore their own ideas through individual projects. Returning students welcome. Raku is a traditional Japanese firing technique that involves removing glazed pots from a hot kiln and rapidly cooling them through combustion with sawdust and exposure to open air and water. The final result is brilliant metallic and white crackle surfaces. Supplies and firings included in the course fee. Students should wear old clothing to class. Special attire instructions will be provided for the raku class. No class October 10. Raku firing on November 21 at the Steam Plant. Instructor: TBC. Raku Ceramic Technician: Tony Wilson
