Join us at Trout Lake Community Centre for an afternoon of cinema, reflection, and community as we honor the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. We are proud to present a double-feature screening of two powerful National Film Board of Canada (NFB) documentaries that explore Indigenous identity, history, and resilience. Film Lineup:Siksikakowan: The Blackfoot Man (Dir. Sinakson Trevor Solway | 77 mins) Screening first. An intimate and contemporary exploration of Indigenous masculinity within the Blackfoot Confederacy. Following men and boys ranging from rodeo riders to radio DJs, this film delves into intergenerational healing, vulnerability, and the traditional teaching of Ikkina'pitapiiyissinni (gentleness) to challenge colonial stereotypes. Mary Two-Axe Earley: I Am Indian Again (Dir. Courtney Montour | 34 mins) Discover the powerful legacy of Mohawk trailblazer Mary Two-Axe Earley. This documentary uses rich archival footage to follow her two-decade battle against the discriminatory policies of Canada’s Indian Act, which stripped First Nations women of their status for marrying non-Indigenous men.
