About this program
In this Village Vancouver Westside Neighbourhood Food Network workshop, learn the basics of water bath canning and how to safely preserve high‑acid foods such as jams, jellies, pickles, and certain fruits. Key topics include: -Understanding acidity levels and safe canning practices -Preparing jars and basic canning equipment -Proper sterilization methods -Processing times and temperatures for high‑acid foods -Troubleshooting common issues -How to check whether jars have sealed properly You’ll get hands‑on practice with water bath canning and leave with the confidence to make your own preserved foods at home. We'll have a community seed library present - pick up free seeds for your garden, or swap or donate seeds. Free for Seniors (50 and over; $10 materials fee only). Part of our 10th Annual Westside Food Festival (May 19-July 11).
