About this program
Prepare for a summer filled with fun and adventure! This camp will include indoor and outdoor activities focused on community engagement, leadership development, and team building, all centered around the week’s theme. Weekly themes address issues pertinent to preteen and youth, aiming to create a safe, fun, and welcoming environment where they can freely and openly express their views and perspectives. Our activities and workshops are designed to give youth the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of each topic and promote positive learning outcomes. We will embark on two fieldtrips each week, travelling by walking, public transit, and charter bus to explore the city and the great outdoors. Parents/Guardians will receive an email with the Parent Communication/Policy manual and forms before camp, detailing camp expectations and guidelines. Preteen and youth must have completed grade 6, or have just completed grade 11, to register for camp. Youth Day Camp generally include 1-2 fun and engaging outings each week for preteen and youth of varying ages and interests, offering a blend of sensory-rich and imaginative experiences. Participants will explore bustling urban areas, learn about their environment, and take part in different activities that promote social connection, adventure, and physical activity. Youth Day Camp is held at Sunset Community Centre. The weekly schedule also includes going to Sunset Park, Sunset Community Garden, and more. The sensory environment may include loud noises, bright lights, or crowded spaces. Staff prepare a daily visual schedule to help campers know what to expect for the day. Sensory resource kits may be available. The day camp space includes a chill-out zone/a low-sensory area, with staff working to provide quiet breaks in low-stimulation zones. Program staff are typically post-secondary students with diverse interests and levels of experience, and generally between 19 and 30 years old. This program has a staff-to-participant ratio of 1:10. Please reach out to us at the time of registration if your child needs more leader attention and support in order to participate in camp. There will be no waitlists. Availability will be updated on an ongoing basis. Available spots are first-come, first-served (online, in-person, and by phone). This weeks theme Social Media
